The Willeson v. Calgary (City) court decision was released by the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench in Calgary on February 9, 2007.
On June 7, 2002, Shelley Willeson was walking in a cross-walk when she was suddenly hit by a Calgary city transit bus. She was sent to the ground and her head struck the pavement but she did not lose consciousness. Paramedics arrived and discharged her as being alright.
Very soon after the accident Ms. Willeson experienced pain in her neck and shoulders, jaw pain, laceration to her arm where she fell and a variety of different headaches. She also suffered some residual effects from the head blow, causing her to be somewhat confused and disoriented at work, as well as some level of vertigo. Read the rest of this entry »

The Aberdeen v. Langley (Township) court decision was released by the British Columbia Supreme Court on July 6, 2007.
On the morning of June 29, 2002, James Aberdeen, an accomplished triathlete and Ironman competitor, aged 50, went cycling with a friend as part of his training. Towards the end of their ride, Mr. Aberdeen and his friend were cycling in the Township of Langley.
Suddenly, Mr. Aberdeen saw an on-coming cube van that had crossed over the yellow centerline of the road. Mr. Aberdeen took evasive action, and swung wide around a curve. He then encountered some gravel on the roadside, and without time to brake, he was thrown violently against a metal guard rail, through a gap, and down a rocky embankment. The George v. Convent Garden Market Corp. court decision was released by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in London on July 25, 2007.
On February 7, 2002, Maria George was entering the Convent Garden Market in London, Ontario, when her right foot suddenly caught a buckled area of the entrance mat. She fell forward with into the left side of the door frame, striking her head on the frame and then rebounded backward falling on her back and hitting her head on the floor.
Ms. George, who was dazed by the slip & fall, was taken by ambulance to the London Health Sciences Centre. X-rays of her neck showed a localized prevertebral soft tissue swelling at the C5-6 level. Read the rest of this entry »

The Sirna v. Smolinski court decision was released by the British Columbia Supreme Court in Victoria on July 3, 2007.
In the late afternoon of February 10, 2004, Elizabeth Sirna (then age 25) and her boyfriend decided to go rollerblading. As they entered the crosswalk at the intersection of Chambers and Pandora, an oncoming car smashed into Ms. Sirna. The back of her head and neck struck the windshield with such force that her body was catapulted forward onto the roadway some ten to twelve feet west of the crosswalk.
As a result of her head colliding with the car windshield and then the pavement, Ms. Sirna suffered a traumatic brain injury. She also suffered from neck pain associated with headache, paraspinal back pain, lumbar pain and a pelvic upslip.
As a result of her injuries, Ms. Sirna hired a Victoria injury lawyer and sued the driver for negligence. Read the rest of this entry »

The McKinnon v. Grand River Hospital court decision was released by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on June 25, 2007.
Cheryl McKinnon, a single mother of three children, suffered from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. As a result, for several years she had endured symptoms caused by the compression of her vessels and nerves. On March 22, 2002, Ms. McKinnon was operated on by Dr. Paul Sharkey at the Grand River Hospital in Kitchener for the purpose of correcting this problem.
Difficulties arose during the surgery and Ms. McKinnon was airlifted to University Hospital in London. As a consequence of the surgery, Cheryl McKinnon suffered permanent, debilitating injuries including vascular and nerve damage. Read the rest of this entry »
