Lawsuit Launched after Best Friends Collide in Snowmobile Accident

The Kahl v. Jakobsson court decision was released by the British Columbia Supreme Court in Vernon on July 28, 2006.

Best friend Bob Kahl and Ben Jakobsson were snowmobiling together on March 2, 2002. Mr. Kahl, who was in the lead, suddenly drove over an unmarked jump, lost control of his snowmobile and jumped off into the snow. Seconds later, he saw the right ski and the cowling of Mr. Jakobsson’s snowmobile coming straight towards him. He was struck by Mr. Jakobsson’s snowmobile.

Mr. Kahl was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Cranbrook. Mr. Kahl sustained a serious compound left shin bone fracture, a burst fracture in his low back, and suffers ongoing pain. Read the rest of this entry »

Kamloops Senior Breaks Hip in Slip & Fall at Public Library

The Simon v. Strata Plan KAS2093 court decision was released by the British Columbia Supreme Court in Kamloops on October 17, 2007.

On the night of February 28, 2000, 67-year old Florence Simon was on her way to the Kamloops Public Library to take out some books to read. She parked her car and began walking towards the main entrance. It was dark and the sidewalks and road surface were wet. As she descended the stairs, she suddenly slipped and fell down the stairs.

Ms. Simon lay at the foot of the stairs unable to get up for some time. Finally, an ambulance was called and took her to Royal Inland Hospital where Ms. Simon was hospitalized for six days. As a result of the fall, the plaintiff broke her left hip and heel. Read the rest of this entry »

Kelowna Coach Sues after Being Head-Butted by Player’s Father

The Sage v. Renner court decision was released by the British Columbia Supreme Court in Kelowna on September 11, 2007.

Doug Sage and Robert Renner both had teenage sons playing on the same lacrosse team. Mr. Sage was assisting with the coaching of the team. On June 8, 2002, after the end of a game, Mr. Sage and Mr. Renner had an altercation in the hallway near the dressing room. Mr. Renner wanted to discuss how Mr. Sage was coaching the team and Mr. Sage refused. After some words were exchanged, Mr. Renner head-butted Mr. Sage on the forehead. Mr. Sage fell backwards through the door and struck his head on the concrete privacy wall. Mr. Sage suffered a broken and lacerated nose and a concussion.

The police were called and Mr. Renner was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm. Read the rest of this entry »

B.C. Man Rear-Ended While Stopped at Railway Crossing

The Chetal v. Honig court decision was released by the British Columbia Supreme Court in New Westminster on September 28, 2007.

On August 23, 2004, Rakesh Chetal was a passenger in a car driven by his wife. While the car was stopped at a railway crossing for a passing train, it was violently struck from behind by a pickup truck.  Mr. Chetal suffered injuries to the muscles surrounding the spine in the neck, the mid back, and lower back.

Prior to the accident Mr. Chetal was involved in sports including cricket, table tennis, golf, badminton, and pool. After the accident, he was no longer able to be involved in these activities. The accident also impacted his ability to care for his disabled elderly father who was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Read the rest of this entry »
